Tournaments

The first Monopoly tournaments were suggested by Victor Watson of Waddington after the origin of World Chess Championship 1972. The Monopoly World Championship was first held in Washington, D.C., in 1973. Since then, there have been 10 subsequent World Championships.

While the 1973 tournament, the first, matched three United States regional champions against the UK champion and thus could be argued as the first international tournament, true multinational international tournaments were first held in 1975 Hasbro conducts the Worldwide Monopoly tournament. The world champion was Antonio Zafra of Spain, who won in 2004.
