World Team Olympiad
The World Bridge Federation organizes the bridge tournament of The World Team Olympiad. This is held every four years which began in 1960. Traditionally the World Team Olympiad consisted of two events: the Open Teams event and the Women's Teams event. Since 2000, the Senior Teams are included as a third event. The rule to participate is each national contract bridge organization is allowed to enter only one team for each event.
World Mind Sports Games
Soon after the after the 2008 Summer Olympics, the first World Mind Sports Games were held in Beijing, China. The games consisted of five mind sports competitions which were: Bridge, Chess, Go, Draughts, and Xiangqi (Chinese Chess). Thirty five gold medals were vied for by 2763 competitors from 143 countries.
World Open Pairs Championship
This Pairs competition was initiated in 1962 and is held every four years. The World Open Pairs Championship is one of the competitions held as part of the World Bridge Championships. It is open to pairs from all over the world, without any quota restrictions being applied.
Bermuda Bowl
The World team championships in contract bridge are named after the first version which was held in Bermuda in 1950. This is known as the Bermuda Bowl. The event was competed between USA, Europe and Britain. The first event was held in 1950 and won by USA. After this, the Bermuda Bowl became a yearly challenge match between the USA and the European Champions. Over time more teams were included as the format changed.
World Transnational Open Teams Championship
The World Transnational Open Teams Championship is a major side event organized after the qualifying stages for Bermuda Bowl, Venice Cup, and Senior Bowl have been concluded. Teams that failed to qualify in the main event as well as new teams may enter. It is allowed that all team members can be from the different country – hence the transnational.
