Voting for the World Series Poker.

This is the first time that World Series of Poker has resorted to an online voting system for the selection of the competing players. WSOP has released the names of the current top 20 players in the popularity contest. The maximum number of votes in that contest will decide the winners, those who will get to compete at the WSOP tournament. 50 players constantly get highlighted on the poker series website and now there is the additional mention of all those names of the players, on the website as it stands.

The list prepared by the poker series committee is missing out on few of the world class players. Jerry Yang one of the top players at the main event fails to make it to the top 50 list. Carlos Mortensen who must have been in the top 10 list is being missed heavily.

Below are few players who made it to TOP 20

Doyle Brunson

Johnny Chan

T.J. Cloutier

Allen Cunningham

Antonio Esfandiari

Sam Farha

On comparing the list to the top 50 as seen on the poker series website, as of on 19th April 2010, it becomes obvious to recognize all the missing names.

Some other players that may miss out from competing in the World Series event due to lesser votes are, Annette Obrestad, Jason Mercier, Phil "OMGClayAiken" Galfond, David Benyamine, six-time bracelet winner Layne Flack, Jeff Lisandro, Erick Lindgren and Eli Elezra.

WSOP has confirmed that they have received 25000 votes till date and counting. So if you want to get your favorite player competing at the event, just head towards the site and cast your vote.

Two categories of rapid and blitz were contested then and each was sub-divided into two divisions, -individual and team.

Collegopoly or is it Monopoly?

Will Lusby from Ottawa (CN) will be competing in 'College-Opoly', a largest monopoly tournament in the Ottawa Valley on Saturday, March 6 at the Pembroke Armoury. Canada's best Monopoly player is also coming to Pembroke to aid Algonquin College raise money for the proposed Renaissance Square campus.

The tournament will feature up to eight teams competing for the right to take on Mr. Lusby who last year became the Canadian Monopoly King, when he defeated 47 of the best Monopoly players in Canada at the nationals in Montreal. He will hold the title for the next four years.

Mr Lusby speaking at the campus during the kick-off ceremony said "Every game is different and anything is possible when you play Monopoly, I'm sure there will be stiff competition at the Pembroke tournament and I look forward to the challenge."

Monopoly has been a popular game since it was first introduced during the year 1935. Today, it is the most popular of all board games in the world and is estimated that 750 million have played Monopoly. Lusby said he first got interested in playing as a youngster, however, he realized it was competitive when he saw an advertisement for a major Monopoly tournament at the Eaton's Centre. Competitive Monopoly is slightly different as properties are sold quicker and rents are paid faster. So games can wrap up in almost half hour.

"At home, you know everyone you are playing with. On the circuit it's pretty competitive but there is camaraderie," explained Mr. Lusby. "Everyone's there to win but you're also there to have a good time."

The registration fee for the tournament is $5,000 for a team of four and includes the opportunity to win prizes. It also includes winning the team's registration fee back if one player from any of the teams beats the Monopoly Champion and two other players at the final table during the championship game.

Other prizes include a private gourmet meal for 10 at the campus served by the college's Cook Apprenticeship program.

College-Opoly begins with a marquee match at 5 p.m. where players will be invited to learn the rules and strategies of tournament Monopoly under Mr. Lusby. The actual tournament commences at 7 p.m. with each player competing against players from opposing teams. At the end of the 75-minute game, points will be calculated for each player using the standard Monopoly point system.

After the final summing up of points, the top three teams with their highest number of points will then choose a team representative who will participate in the championship game with the Canadian Monopoly champion. ‘Mr. Lusby does have one piece of free advice to his challengers:

"Don't be afraid to take risks and make trades," he said. "The game is all about trading."

The admission to the tournament for the general folks is $15 and includes complimentary food and the chance to play friendly
