Achievements
- Gaprindashvili held the chess throne for sixteen years. In 1962, she won a match against Elisabeth Bykova with a score of 9:2 and Nona became the fifth Women's World Chess Champion.
- Nona Gaprindashvili won the USSR Women's Championship five times (1964, 1973 and 1974, 1981, 1983, 1985), and won ten times for the USSR national team at the World Chess Olympiads (1963-1986).
- From 1979 to 1988, Nona successfully participated in several competitions at world championships. She won the interzonal tournament at Bad Kissingene (1982, Germany), and was the second winner of the interzonal tournament in Smederevska-Palanca (1987, Yugoslavia).
- For her achievements in chess was Nona Gaprindashvili was awarded the Order of Lenin (1966) and the Order of Honor (1985), and the Medal for Excellence in Work (1965).
- From 1989 to 1996, Nona Gaprindashvili was the President of the National Olympic Committee of Georgia. Since 1996 she has been the Honorary President of NOKG.
