Stratego Strategy

On each player's turn, the player picks an opposing piece to confront with one of his/her own. If the piece he uses ranks higher than the opposing piece the player with the lower rank is defeated. This process goes on until the highest rank opposing piece is eliminated.

To win at Stratego one is best of not risking one's highest ranked pieces to defeat a very low ranked piece. This not only gives away the positioning of the higher ranked piece potentially cluing in one's opponent to where to strike next, but is also somewhat redundant as a lower ranked piece could do the same job just as effectively with less risk to overall strategy.

Starting play with lower ranked pieces to confront the opposition also helps reveal the opponents positioning on the board. Once a significant memory and identification of the other players pieces are identified, the middle ranked pieces may be deployed more effectively thereafter
